“Drums Across the Desert” & Santa Clara Vanguard Visit (Monday, 6/29)

I just want to make you all aware of two GREAT events that are occurring next Monday (6/29). First, Mesquite HS is hosting the Santa Clara Vanguard for their daytime stay as they rehearse and prepare for the drum corps show Monday evening at MCC. SCV’s tentative rehearsal schedule at MHS is from 10:30am-2:00pm. They will be on the practice field adjacent to the South parking lot. The rehearsal is FREE and open to the public, and I strongly encourage all band students and parents that are available to come up and check out the rehearsal structure of a professional drum corps organization. You will not believe that these kids are only between the ages of 14 and 21!!!! It will be HOT, so bring water, chair/blanket for the grass, something for shade, sunscreen, etc. to enjoy your visit more.

Second is the “Drums Across the Desert” Drum Corps show at Mesa Community College on Monday night (doors open at 5:45 and the show starts at 7:00pm). This will be an amazing show at approximately the mid-point of the DCI season. If you wish to attend, tickets can be purchased either at the door or through the Arizona Academy website:

Upcoming MHS Band events:

  • Thursday, July 16 – Marching Band meeting for all Wildcat Marching Band members and parents (7:00pm in the MHS Band Room).

  • Monday, July 20 – Band Camp begins! 8:00am-5:00pm (7/20-24 & 7/27-30)

  • Wednesday, August 5 – Classes Begin.

RCC “Big Orange Classic” (11-8-14)

The Wildcat Marching Band took their “Every Which Way” show to California and worked their magic at the “Big Orange Classic” Marching Band Festival at Riverside City College.  The band earned the FIRST PLACE trophy in the 1A division, as well as Outstanding Performance captions in Music, Marching/Movement, General Effect and Colorguard (click on the “Scoring Recap Sheet” above to compare scores with other bands and divisions)!  This was the WMB’s first return to the Classic in five years and we had an incredible time!  The band was exhausted from their experiences at Knott’s Berry Farm, Downtown Disney and of course, RCC. But as hard as this group has worked this season, it was a great and rewarding trip traveling together.  Now, preparations for the final competition of the season…..the ABODA State Marching Band Championship at Glendale Community College on Saturday, November 15th. The band performs at 10:45am. If you can make it out, we’d love to hear your cheers!!!

ABODA State Marching Band Festival (11-1-14)

An amazing end to the marching band regular season yesterday with the State Festival hosted at Mesquite High School! The Wildcat Marching Band received not just a “Superior” rating, but a rating of “SUPERIOR WITH DISTINCTION”, meaning that all six judges gave them a Superior rating……like I said, AMAZING!!!!!

The band finished in FIRST PLACE in the State as one of only two groups to receive a Superior rating for the entire season. They also received Outstanding Performance captions in ALL FIVE areas (Music, Visual, General Effect, Percussion and Colorguard)!

By finishing in the “Top 10” of the State, the WMB drew the seventh spot in the performance order for the championship. They will be performing at 10:45am at Glendale Community College on Saturday, November 15th in their quest for the first-place trophy at the ABODA State Marching Band Championship!!! But first, we will be competing next Saturday (11/8/14) at Riverside Community College at the “Big Orange Classic”. Good Luck Wildcats!!!!

A very special “Thank You!!!” to all of the parents, students and community members who helped to make yesterday’s festival a HUGE success! Nothing but high praises from all of the ABODA judges, technicians, and vendors for a smooth and successful festival.  Great Job Everyone!!!!

“Thanks!” to Kona Ice for their donation to the Wildcat Band Program from Saturday’s Festival
